A man is lucky to be alive after being physically abused by his girlfriend and he's now sharing his story with the world.
Alex Skeel, 22, was physically attacked and had boiling water poured over him by his former partner Jordan Worth, 22. He was also denied food, kept isolated from friends and family and even told what to wear by his ex, the Daily Record reports.
Alex says he was just 10 days away from death following one particular attack from his girlfriend.
Worth admitted grievous bodily harm and coercive controlling behaviour and was jailed for seven-and-a-half years at Luton Crown Court earlier this year.
Now Alex has bravely spoken out about his ordeal, claiming medics told him he was days away from death when help reached him.
The pair met in 2012 at college. They were both 16 at the time and the abuse started very early in their relationship, the court heard. During the last nine months of the relationship she beat him and he required hospital treatment at times.
The abuse came to an end in June last year when a neighbour heard them fighting and called police.
Ambulance staff wrote that injuries to his hand and burns to his arms and legs had been self-treated with cling film resulting in second and third-degree burns.
Alex said he had not been allowed to get treatment for his wounds and has since had several operations on his brain, head and hands.
He spoke out to encourage other men suffering violence in their relationship to speak up and not suffer in silence.
